Has anyone done this mod?

Its one of the tutorials here. Will it help much? Like if I just do this mod and put a better case fan will that be enough to cool down the xbox?

Also, why do you have to cut? I'm sure it will fit fine if its just attached under the the tray.

He cut to attach it to the tray. Screws are more secure than tape.
