so heres the deal i tried soldering the chip in via the lpc port . . .

flashed a few different banks with xecutor and evox bioses.

but no matter what it would allways boot into the ms bios every time on every dip switch method i tried

so i took it back apart and soldered it in a little better,d0 is nice and secure (underside) then i was getting the red and green frag (in stealth and regular mode)

so I unsoldered the chip but just left it in there and it works fine again. . .

the external dipswitch board DOES light up when i plug it into the usb, but not when i turn on my xbox.

does this mean i have a bad chip? i can connect and flash to it no problem with my pc usint the usb flasher. takje the usb out and it boots up fine again.

or am i doing something wrong?

just a quick addition of info, I tried to plug the dipswitch board into the usb while the xbox was on to power it up (I read it works with some people) and it just fraggs out the xbox as well (in stealth and normal mode)

There is a tutorial in my signature on troubleshooting modchip installs. Please give it a read. You had several problems as you changed over and tried other methods. It will help you greatly.

-at first your D0 was not being grounded by the chip which is likely poor contact or soldering (MS bios always booted)
-then it sounds like your D0 was bridged to something else (frags on stealth and regulur)

I'd be very hesitant to proclaim a bad chip at this stage. Is there any reason you aren't doing the pogo install?

<also - be sure you use an Xecuter bios as it will say Xecuter on boot so you know if it is loading the bios from the chip. The Evox bios looks exactly like the MS bios so you can't confirm it visually>

well im not doing a pogopin install because one of my pogo pins poped out. . .(the D0 one)

and plus I allways heard soldering was better. . .but, could I do the pogopin install and still wire the do to the underside. . .

thats where i had the d0 soldered, because you dont need to scratch away any paint. so i dont think it is a D0 problem. .

but thanks for your info and ill give your tutorial a try.

btw. . . i have a 1.4 xbox i know this cuz i tested the ground on the LPC with a multimeter and it had it. and yes i was using the xecutor bios so i could see if it replaced the ms bios.

okay so after all my trial and error Im figuring it may be a yellow wire that somehow got ripped out of the harness. . . I tried stripping and sticking the wire back in but I guess that isnt working or it is cuz i can write and flash to it. Personally i dont know if it makes a difference. mad.gif

but the bios seemed to flash to it but i have no other ideas why it wouldnt.

ive tried the cleaning, ive tried the reseating (now giving pogo pin method a try)

it does work on stealth now in pogo pin method, but i still cant boot any other bios (and ive tried many) in normal mode,

Ive read soo many topics of people with the same problems, and tried all suggestions given to them so now im just kind of lost, wandering this forum looking for the holy grail of all fixes.
