In all of the tutorials I've seen on flashing it's mainly done on the computer....and then the tuts say to FTP to your Xbox.....but do you have to be connected (from PC to Console) in order to flash the chip? Or do I just need the BIOS cd in order to flash the chip once it's installed? I'm a tad confused....

No, you don't need to be connected to your computer in order to flash.

The whole FTP'ing to your computer thing is mainly for backing up your data prior to installing your new dashboard.

I gotcha...thanks. FTP'ing is also used to copy "files" onto the hard drive correct?

Correct. When you FTP, you can upload files to your Xbox, or download files from your Xbox.
