It is very simiar to windows.. as far as the basics of what it does.. it can easily be put on your xbox and can legally be found free.. that is why you hear about it on XS alot..

You run Linux on an XBox, and it boots up just like a PC. You can then surf the net, check e-mail, chat on AIM, etc.

EDIT: Seriously though....this is probably the worst case of not searching I have ever seen. What is Linux?? A quick search here, google, or anywhere would answer that for you. Please search first next time.
