Ok, I have posted before..a long time ago.

So I have a Xenium in my V 1.5 Xbox with a 120 Gig HDD.

My Xbox likes to randomly shut its self on and off. I bought the new Rainbow Six today and I will be playing online then all of the sudden my damn Xbox shuts off.

It's not the Xenium with a bad solder or anything. I have checked A hell of alot of times!

It's weird because if I take the Xbox and tilt it a bit or kind of shake it, it turns on/off.

This is really pissing me off and I can not find out what is causing it! It happends even when my Xenium is shut off..

Does anyone have ANY ideas of what it could be? PLEASE!!!!

Thanks!

In mu repair business I have come across alot of dead XBOX's or ones like yours shutting down for no reason.

And all have been the solder pads around the black AC power plug in the back of
the power supply unit which have got cracks around them or the pin has pushed away from the solder pad on PCBoard.

Very easy to fix, just open your XBOX, and then remove the two screws holding the power supply, and push it back a little bit and then lift it up away from the case.

Flip it over, and look at the very back you will clearly see where the power plug two solder spots are, just use a 30watt soldering iron heat up each spot for at least 3 to 5 seconds, and if needed add a little more solder.

Put the PSU back inside your xbox, and try out your system. It should be working great now!

ok thanks! I will give that a shot.

Another weird thing is that sometimes the bottum button (power button, not eject) will stop working for a while. So...I don't know what that's all about!!!!

Noooo, I knew this would happen!

Now it's shutting off again!! but not as much it seams.

When I shake it around it doesn't shut off or anything. So that's fixed I guess.

but now it likes to shut off, but not soon. I had my XBox on for about 8 hours before it shu off last time. and today I had it on for like 2 hours.

Gah, now what the hell can it be?!

Something thermally sensitive in the power supply? Or maybe the power switch is iffy.

I was thinking it could be the power switch and stuff.

but I can't figure out how to get the damn thing out. lol, it's all in there. And I don't really want to take the MoBo out.

Anyone got a good way of getting it out? or a tutoriel with pics?

Thanks!

Taking the mobo out is not that hard. Almost all the modchip tutorials show you how to do it.

but do I have to take out the Mobo to get to power switch?

And I wonder if I should even do this? Like is there a point in looking at it? maybe messing with it will fix it. Hehe..

I wonder if these work on all Xbox's. My sisters boyfriend left his Xbox here. I guess I could open his and switch the power button with mine muhaha.gif

hmmm...

I don't think you have to take out the mobo to mess with the front power switch.

Just pop off the case top, disconnect the drives, take the drive caddies out and you should have enough space to get at the front power switch.

Hmm...well I took it out and made sure everything was nice and secure and out it all back together.

It worked perfectly for a good time.

I left a dedicated Server on for Rainbow Six and it stayed on the whole time I was at work. A good 10 hours.

I then decided to play Rainbow. I played for about a hour and it shut down. turned it back on and 10 mins later it shut down..

I am loosing all hope in this POS.
