I am running a linksys wrt54gs. My xbox is in my living room and my
pc (with the router) is upstairs. If I am going through the router, the xbox is working fine. The problem comes when I am trying to download on my pc.

I download a lot of bittorrents and my speed has come to a screetching halt!
I diabled the router firewall but still....no speed. For now, I have just been
unplugging the router and going straigt to the modem when I download.

Any thoughts? I am running the xbox ip as dhcp as well as my pc. I have
also enabled and disabled dmz with no changes. Any help is much appreciated.

for torrents you have to forward some ports to your computer so then you can download the file from people behind firewalls not just people that don't have them

I forget which ports to forward try all ?

ports 6881-6999. your connection gets slow because BT opens a shit load of connections to other computers. but it shouldnt be slowing down the speeds on your internal network much (unless you have a DS3). have a look at how the rest of your network is setup, especially ensure that your xbox ip isnt routable.
