This tutorial is to teach you how to make custom bios for use with the many bios loaders currently in use. With any bios.

Step 1: Get Xbtool.

Pretty simple.

Grab the latest version of xbtool and install it. This can be done by various methods, but I just unrared it into my “My Programs” folder, and made a shortcut to it on my desktop (you may want to put it into your Program folder under your start menu.)

Step 2: A trip the “Usual Place”

Optional: if you want to understand the process more: try loading a bios, notice you can’t check the “Convert to BFM box.” This step is to fix that.

Log on the “Usual Place” and grab /PC/bios tools/XBtool/Config.rar

While you’re at it, grab the bios of your choice (unedited, non-bfm, of course)

Step 3: Do it.

Now, unrar Config.rar into xbtool’s config folder (overwrite any files.)
Open up XBtool and set the "Bios Type" to "Multi" (some bioses will require you to choose a different Bios Type)
Click the "Unpack..."
XBtool now will Unpack the bios into 3 .img files in a folder with the same name as the bios file, except the folder is all lower case, ie iND-BiOS.5001.06.bin unpacks into ind-bios.5001.06/.
Now, tick the "Convert to BFM box" and hit the "Pack..." button.
Select the "xboxkrnl.img" that XBtool generated for you, then choose a filename for your bios.

Congradulations, you know have a working BFM bios from any bios. (not just supported ones!)

Other people's tips! No need to scroll down and search!

QUOTE (Heykrop)
While you have the iND kernel unpacked you can also change the location in which it looks for the .cfg file. Open the xboxkrnl.img in a hex editor and search for ind-bios.cfg it will have partition information as part of the strin it is in. as in Partition2\ind-bios.cfg change the partition2 to any suitable for where you want to place the .cfg file and have the bios look for it.
Here are the options Partiton
1 to boot from partition E:

6 to boot from partition F:

7 to boot from partition G:

Now save the edited xboxkrnl.img and repack it using XBTOOL. This can be done for both BFM versions and for chip versions.

Shouldn't there be some kind of warning about using the correct bios for which version xbox you have ...ie ind-bios last time I heard was incompatable with 1.6 xbox's and if you have a 1.6b xbox you have to get a special bios specific for 1.6b...or does all that only apply to chips ?

Im terrinly sorry for bumping this, but im kinda new at softmodding and all..

Im trying to 'BFM' Yoshi-final-256k-2005_1.6.bin, that is a debug bios.
Now, with every bios i try to open, it says something about the kernel not found.

Is there any way to get Yoshi-final-256k-2005_1.6.bin in a softmod?

don't open it, unpack it ... then repack as a bfm (not the bfm media flag tick box )

the bfm flag is only ticked if you want to get rid of the boot screen.

when created check the rc4 key matches the one in mettoo's config file and also set the correct eeprom for you're xbox in the config file too.

also check you have a 1.6 not a 1.6b, as i believe there is a seperate yoshi bios for the 1.6b

Can't unpack it either, cant find kernel again.

Just tried it.. I couldn't get it to work either even after putting the correct rc4 key in the multi.ini and debug.ini

mmm wonderin if I'm looking in the right thread.... I've got a 1.6 Xbox which I just got setup w/ a 300GB HDD in there now... But the Krayzie's Ndure 1.1 softmod doesn't see the rest of the F:/ HDD cuz it's over 127GB so I'm wondering If I got a bios & patched it up and made a BFM Bios from it and had it set to support over 127GB where would I put it? the .img file to boot?

Or is there another better route to go? Let me know!! Thx!!!

Ftp Krayzie's Extras from the package you downloaded over to the xbox. Select an option that says nkpatcher 06 or something like that. You don't need to use BFM bios for LBA48 support. Nkpatcher the kernel patcher has it.
