Case Review : SMT launches new line of Custom Cases
>> The second in my continuing series of Case Reviews.

SMT (www.system-mods.com) sent in this early prototype for review a while ago, but as is the norm for XS, we are balancing many projects, reviews, and interviews while keeping our lives in order. smile.gif

Lacking any skills myself with a paint brush or can, I started this series of reviews to see what the scene offered people like me in the way of custom or unique case options for the wannabie modder in all of us. I've done enough cases to know that I can cover a case with paint, but notmake it look good enough to show off without making excuses.

The sample sent in from SMT.. is not only professional, but looks awesome.

SMT delivered that, and more in spades. The case I received, and have been enjoying for awhile now is well decked out. My favorite color blue carries through the whole theme of the case.

It’s been primed, and painted in multiple levels, with sanding done in-between providing a smooth and reflective and blemish free paint job. As you can see, this was a beautiful case. What’s more, the matching controller was a nice touch.

Anyone who has ever painted a controller, and has ended up with a controller that ended up chipping, or had it end up sticky, will definitely approve of the results SMT achieved with their paint process. (details of which they won’t divulge)

The attention to detail was excellent.

If this was only a painted case, I’d have been ecstatic. However, once again, people with skills did what I would likely have butchered. Custom SMT Jewel, with Case cut accordingly for it, and a nice Cold Cathode to match to light that baby up provides the look I wanted to achieve on my own for ages.

Rounding out the case mods provided by SMT, was the Power/Eject LED replacement. The same treatment was done for the Xecuter external switch LED.

So, for those who want an automotive paint quality custom paint job done on their case, or on a premod, you can now have SMT do the full bumper to bumper service on your case. The fact they can also take the drudgery out of doing LED’s just adds to the value and the look of the final product.

We have launched a new line of painted systems and are working on getting them all up on the site. They will all be up and ready for sale by the end of the week.

Colour Changing System

Xbox-Scene Review

Colours Available: Blue , Red, Green, Silver
Colour Changing: Blue to Red, Silver to Green

We have some new types of paint we are experimenting with that will be available really soon. This stuff no one has ever seen before brand new smile.gif alright here is a little taste hehe The new colors coming are mirror chrome looks exactly like real chrome and this new heat reactive paint that changes color by the current room temperature (nifty because the vents will change color as the fan is pushing out hot air).

Expected release date on the current systems is 9-10-04

-----

the colour change depends on what angle your looking at it and what agle the light is hitting it.

I can't list a price for two reasons.. first being I've had it for awhile.. and there wasn't an established price on it. Second, SMT is currently reworking their product selection and pricing, which means you'll be getting more value for your buck.

That particular paint job is top-notch quality. The others on your site look considerably less than par. The silver one in particular, had noticeable bubbling and run off. Not exactly the best thing to post if you want to make a business of painting boxes wink.gif

Not harping, just an observation! That color-shift paint job looks pro though. Good work.

yes we will also have cases by itself for those who want to mod their own system just don’t feel like painting. We will be offering dvd window & jewel whole cut outs as well. The equipment is arriving in 8 days this way we can input the dimensions into the computer and let machine precisely cut it out.
