hello,

i have a little problem, i have an asus dvd drive(based on pioneer 107), i have burned till now at 4x with a lot of media from the cheapest to the most expensive, burned them all well no coasters. and they all work nicly in the xbox.

now i have decided to start burning at 8x, the brand of dvd-r that i have found "mirror". if i burn them at 8x, they wont be fully recognized by the xbox.they will play but freeze(the movie) or get a message(dirty disc, game).

if i continue to burn the "mirror 8x" at 4x speed i dont have a problem at all.

So what do u guys think is the problem? the drive or the media?

thank you?

It is the speed, XBOX drives have difficulty reading discs that have been written at highspeed. If 4x works with that disc then just stick with it. If you burn at 8x it most likely will have trouble reading them with any media. Every burning faq that I have read recommends writing them only at 1x to get compatibility.

i mean how much time do u save there?
just stick with 4 times...i myself do 2,4x since i have a thomson drive and u know what thez say about them

dvd+r from "emtec" former "BASF" (german brand) work fine if written at 2,4x

Don't get el cheapo media. Get stuff from reputable manufactures, I'm not talking the brand name, but the media ID. I've been using YudenT02 and CMCMAG AE1 both burned at 8x in my NEC ND-3500AG and RicohJPNR01's also burn at 8x in my 832s (strategy swap) and in the 3500AG. All media have produced great results and have yet to see an error during game play.

if you use decent media then you can burn at any speed, get some ritek disks and try it

They said exactly the same thing when CD writers first came out and people were copying audio CD's, some people still say burn audio CD's at 1x, yeah right, do them at 48x speed and they are fine.

try burning using dvddecrypter and set the booktype to DVDROM..
but that is only if your dvdrw drive can support booktype changes.

I would say that it is probably the media here. There are alot of complaints about the quality of "Mirror" DVD-R. 8x rated discs only working properly at 4x or less is one of the trademarks of bad media. Pioneer and Ritek are almost made for eachother so I suggest giving some G05 8x Ritek DVD-R discs a shot.

If you can, post some kprobe scans of your media, we'll see just how good a quality they are. And if you don't have a mediatek chipset based dvd burner, you could always try the newest cdspeed as it supports PI/PIF scanning with numerous other drives.
