I am going to replace my hard drive in my xbox and not sure which one to get I for sure want a 120 gig but to store alot of games but what brand i have heard good things about seagate barracude 7200 RPM or WD SE 120 gig 7200 RPM also is it there a big difference between 2 mb of cache or 8 mb of cache.Thanks

But I have heard some of the WD 8 mb do not lock is this true also what do you guys thing of the seagate which one in general is the best as far as reliable,heat ?

Just put in my Maxtor 120....on sale at Best Buy for $150 - $50 Rebate = $100! You can try to scam the rebates and get more too smile.gif

Photocopy the receipt, form, and UPC. Send all the copied stuff using a different name/address, and write "originals used for another rebate" on the form*. Chances are the part-timer that processes the rebates won't even notice.

I installed the Samsung 5400rpm 120G and locked using ConfigMagic2. Works great, very quiet, and no heat problems. biggrin.gif

About this samsung it's 5400 rpm right would benifit more from a 7200 rpm hard drive also what is the cache on them 2 or 8 ?

True, technically, the 7200 is faster than a 5400 however, the xbox uses a slow transfer rate (33) so in the case of xbox the higher rpm isn't utilitized or at least humanly noticable. The cache on the samsung is 2G but again the transfer rate is so slow, I don't think the cache is a factor. My decision was based on price ($120 and no rebate hassles) and I was somewhat concerned about noise & heat. However, from what I read, most people with 7200's aren't having a problem with heat. I have a 7200 wd 120g 2mb and it is cool and sometimes cheap. Look for something on sale!
