I have a standard crystal v1.6 xbox with standard 10gb hard drive and evox chip and dashboard installed. The chip was accidentally on when xbox live was access and now I am banned. Do I need to change both the hard drive and the eeprom file to get back on or is changing just the eeprom file enough?

I can get hold of another new standard 10gb hard drive if needed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to this.

Thanks!! smile.gif

Sorry for being a bit lazy, but there's too many threads to browse through (again).

Last time I checked, most threads said that it was ok to change your videomode to NTSC on a PAL Xbox and play on Live (with stock MS BIOS of course). Is is still true that you won't get banned for doing this? I'm using Enigmah Videomode Switchdisc. Doesn't this change the EEPROM so MS would spot that immediately (if they chose so)?

The rationale for changing the videomode to NTSC is to enable the HDTV modes.

Have a question. I was banned from xbox live about a week ago. I currently have a softmodded xbox. I am receiving a new "virgin" hdd and a "virgin" eeprom and will have it installed by the end of the weekend (hopefully). Now according to this theory, my GT would be flagged because I signed on (accidentely, booted to M$ Dash and auto-sign in was on sad.gif ) to xbox live. So my question is this, should I go ahead and cancel my current subscription and get a new gamertag or would I be ok with my old one?

if you have OEM virgin HDD and virgin EEPROM you will be fine with a flaged gamertag.
thats what i am using, 35 days now
but don't use it on any modded xbox

So your're saying I can't go on live with my flagged gamertag on a softmodded xbox? Because I got a WD hdd and bought a new eeprom. Both have never been used. I was going to install them on my xbox and use the right utilities to keep live! from detecting that I have a soft-modded xbox. From what I have read you can go online with a soft-modded xbox but you just need the right utilities. Currently I am using this tutorial to set up my new hdd:

http://how2xbox.com/harddrive.htm

So I was going to follow that by just copying all my files onto the new hdd and replacing my old eeprom with the new one I have. Because I still want to use live! and if I need to start over and get a new gamertag to be extra careful I will. I will probably post as a new topic on the board so everybody can see it. Thanks for the help.

As long as the HD is stock, you should be ok to keep your gamertag. BUT if you want to put a bigger HD... new GT will be needed.

Good luck mate! wink.gif

Ok, i have read about 22 pages of this thread and i still need clarification. Personally i modded my xbox with a 200GB hdd before it even touched live and i have not been banned, i play halo 2 on xbl almost every night no problem. But my question is for a friend. He just started an account on XBL and has been playing with me. Well now he wants to mod his xbox with a 120GB hdd. As far as i understand i will have to flash his xbox with a new virgin eeprom (which i got from a friend who cant go on XBL so i know its legit) when i put the new HDD in. But then i came across the local marriage theory and i would like to know if this has been proven to work. He has not been banned and if it is possible i would like to upgrade his hdd without chaning the eeprom. Is that possible? If not its not big deal, he just really does not wanna get banned from XBL but he is willing to gamble. I'm just trying to take every precaution to ensure that he doesnt get banned from XBL. Thanks for the the help.

I think the Local Marriage Theory doesn't work.

You will need to flash a new eeprom.

I would suggest backing up the old eeprom to a CD or something, and unlocking the old stock HD.

You can then either keep them together to re-use if your friend gets banned. Or sell them to someone who wants an unbanned eeprom+stock hd pair.

Hey guys I am new to the mod scene and I just completed a softmod, installed XBMC, and a few other apps, all works well, you have some great info on these boards.

Well it's time to upgrade my hard drive, but I must tell you after reading this 28 page post I was very disappointed to find out that I will be banned on live after I upgrade my hard drive. The whole point of modding was to have a game/media console for my living room.

I would consider buying a second Xbox, however with the release of the 360 around the corner it's not really worth it.

Oh well, looks like my HD upgrade will have to wait a while.

They don't believe in teaching grammar in Australia wink.gif

But to continue splitting hairs, wouldn't "how not to get banned" imply I was detailing a way of getting banned and recommending you don't try it wink.gif, as opposed to detailing a way to avoid getting banned. Anyway, the title was based on the linux style "HOWTO:" titles
