Bad Drive?, wont load games.....dirty disc...yeah Options

hey guys, got a question for ya:
i bought my xbox when it first came out, so i've had it for a while. but, i have been having a progressing problem lately:
my xbox wont read games sometimes, and it will take like eight trys for it to read games (def jam fight for ny, wont read a lot of maps in halo 2, etc) and has freezing if i pause the game for more than a few minutes.

i suspected that maybe it was my lense, and so i went out and bought a dvd lense cleaner, wouldnt read the cd, gave me an error bout an out of region dvd.

my drive is the thompson drive from 2001. idk what to do? switch to samsung?
