When i try connecting to xbox live it always gets passed the "Cables Connected" stage and then the "IP Settings Configured" stage but then it always says "DNS not resolved".

My computer connects to the internet through a wireless router and my xbox is connected to my computer through a crossover/ethernet cable. I have tried almost every combination for the DNS settings but none will work. How can i fix this DNS error?

Try restarting you mode, and router! If that do not work...connect you xbox directly to a modem, and than disconnect and put all cables back (try re-connecting to router)! Hope that helps…worked for me!

The same thing is happening to me. With all the recent bannings, I just thought I was banned. Please let us know if you get it to work.

Thanks

Go into the IP settings on your computer and write down the DNS
numbers that your working internet connection on your computer
sees. Then also check the WAN config page of your wireless
router, which you should be able to access from the computer
web browser, and see if the DNS numbers match on that page.

Then finally on your XBOX MS dashboard, goto until
the network settings, and manually config the DNS settings
to the ones you wrote down, or the ones from WAN config
page of your wireless router.

Also make sure you update to the latest dashboard, as the
moer recent ones like 5960, support "wireless" operation.

I hope you realize that: 1) this thread is over 7 years old, 2) your link is for the 360 but this thread is in regards to the original Xbox (before the 360 was ever released), and 3) Xbox Live no longer exists for the original Xbox.
