Hi all. I have a box with a defective Thomson drive, a dirty stock HD, and a Xenium ICE. I've been playing Halo 2 for about 2 weeks, though my defective Thomson drive will only play for about 20 minutes before failing to load the map and then ceasing to work for the next 4 hours or so. I haven't been banned or anything.
I just called M$ about the drive and they said my console is out of warranty (bought it July 5) and they wanted $80 plus shipping to screw me in the ass... I mean fix my DVD drive. This is of course absolutely unacceptable, so I asked them if I'd be banned from XBL if I got a replacement drive myself. After waiting forever to speak to an XBL guy, I told him my story and asked him. He asked for my phone number for my XBL account and then disappeared for 10 minutes. He came back and told me yes, I'd be banned for replacing my DVD drive.
Now, my questions are:
Does this mean my GT has somehow been flagged to have more stringent checks on the state of my box?
Was he bluffing and just trying to scare me out of fixing my own box without paying MS to fix something that is their own fault?
Has anyone here successfully replaced their DVD drive and continued to play on live?
Could M$ possibly be more worthy of my everlasting hatred?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
