Hi,

Has anyone come across a problem with the X3 whereby it FRAGS when set to anything other than 512k BIOS? It will not boot to 1mb, 2mb or 256k BIOS - but will boot to Backup and 512k. Box still boots to M$ dash ok.

Tried swapping the chip, front panel, power panel and black interface cable (to the front panel) and same thing huh.gif

Chip works fine in another box and the solder points are perfect - they have been redone a few times now by a guy with an HND in electronics!. Typically enough this was his box after he did 4 boxes for other people.

Tried a known working chip in the box and same thing - so now we're just confused. 3 2am mornings trying to get around this now and the box is close to being in the bin tonight.

Could it be something to do with 1.6b??? The manafacture date is 28th Aug 2004 - so close to the cutover date - is there any other way of telling other than the date?

Cheers

ya the way you tell a 1.6b is a 1.6b is the generally yellow cable comming from the power/reset buttons that plugs into the motherboard is brown so instead of a yellow wire, you have a brown wire

OK - I'm pretty sure it's not a 1.6b - but the problem still stands. Will only boot to 256k banks. I have tried doing a wire install now - exactly the same problem. I took a chip out of a working box (along with the front panel, interface cable, power panel etc) and exactly the same happens so it's not the chip.

??
