Would it worked if...

- I moded my xbox
- Played on live for couple of weeks (with original disc on mopchip off)
- Now I switch to a larger HDD
- Then copy files from old HDD to new HDD (from C and E)
- Get a new EEPROM (ConfigMagic)
- Lock HDD (ConfigMagic)
- Make new Gamertag

Would this method work to allow me to play on live with new HDD without being banned. It basically the same method but I flash my xbox with a new virgin EEPROM after I install the new HDD rather than before?

What id like to know though is if I took the HDD Key from my retail HDD and put it onto my new HDD then recovered my GT onto the new HDD would they ban me? The reason I say this is because if someone broke their xbox, got a new one and recovered their GT onto it they wouldnt get banned so why shouldnt it work on a modded xbox. Just a thought. If any knows please let me know smile.gif

Yes, Xbox live will recognise the hard disk because it has a different serial number ((stored on hard disk, impossible to change).

It will work.

If you sign into live MS take down all the details of your xbox. If you change your hard disk they see that the serial number has been changed and then ban the hdd key stored on the eprom from accessing xbox live.

If you change the eprom and put in the new hard disk then recover a never banned gamertag to it you'll be ok. If the gamertag has been banned before they will perform more in depth checks and will ban you on the basis of having a larger than stock drive.

If you want to upgrade your hard disk without getting banned. Chip your xbox, flash a live virgin eprom, install new hard drive and lock it, recover the gamertag. Live will see this as a brand new xbox and will profile it the first time you log on live. Change the hard drive on it's own and you'll defo pick up a red card.

I'd flash your eprom then install your new hard drive. It shouldn't matter which way round you do it but there's if you swap the hard drive first you might have to mess about locking/unlocking drives (if you're actually gonna use the box mid upgrade). Just flash the eprom, take the drive out, stick the new drive in, format with large F: (and g: if needed) with all apps installed there, then lock and go.

Wait, so what is the issue with installing the HDD first then flashing with a new EEPROM? What are some problems one might run into if there are any?

There aren't really any issues unless the drive's been logged onto live. You'll have to recreate the partitions as something gets stored in there that won't be removed by a format.

If I install the HDD first then flash with a new EEPROM, should I still back-up the files ( C and E ) on the stock HDD then put then on my new HDD first? (like before I install the EEPROM)

well its been said,
i not sure if its been confirmed proper
(as in no exclusive experiment to test JUST this)

but 'in theory' u could make a backup of the original HDD
AND (and this the main part u have to do!)
a backup of the partitions (the disk.bin)

then reload this onto the new HDD
(using the disk.bin to creat the partitions)
and of course check to make sure all it well after !

also making sure that u using a clean untagged GT this method will work !
well im going to put this to the test shortly !
(in about a month, unless i get a spare 2 month trail thingy)

as on a unflagged GT the HDD/account details are stored locally only it seems smile.gif
and this HAS been confirmed !
but on flagged GT, then much more tests are carried out .. (checkiing of serial numbers and so on.. is one said rumour)

This looks similar to a post I had, but haven't gotten an answer to yet...so I'll repeat it here;

I have a brand new ver 1.6 Xbox, with an Xecuter 2.6, and a 160 Gig Samsung locked drive.

OK...just got all this TODAY, I did play on live BEFORE this, and have not played (at all actually) since the mod.

If I'm understanding all the post correctly, all I need to do in order to protect myself is get a new EEPROM and recover my account...right?

If that is the case..what's involved? Just purchasing the number and replacing the old one using Config Magic...nothing to do to the drive for this...right?

make sure you unlock your drive before flashing the new eeprom, then relock it when your done
