Compared to a Thompson, it's amazing. Basically it reads most file formats without any problems, which makes it much easier (and cheaper) to use cd-r's and rw's instead of DVDs.

Although I now know that Sammy's won't read DVD+R's very easy.. sad.gif

Well the DVD+R/RW support doesn't concern me, dieing out anyway and just sony's bullshit way of cutting royalties so they create another format to confuse us.

i have a samsung 616f and a stock new sammy, and a 2003 thomson.

reading speed is the same in all, but the samsung is quieter.
and if you use good meida (ritek, yuden) then you shouldnt have a problem anyways.

i think the reason a lot of people say "samsung is god" is because they like the two holes in the disc tray for when they get lonely.

Taiyo Yuden IS Ritek, essentially. They use the same ink as the G4s. wink.gif

i love the 616t for xbox live gaming, i don't care what people may say, it's much faster loading and def gives an advantage on loading times.

That's what DVDDecrypter reports when I put a Taiyo Yuden blank in the drive... (if it makes a difference, though it shouldn't, I buy the Japan-made ones and not the Taiwan-made ones).

honestly i think tis all in your head, or the drive your comparing it to is messed up

ive used both 616ts and 605s, they operate exactly the same, the 616 is just uglier (and a bit louder i think) lol

thomson loads as fast as the sammy, at least mine does.

if you disagree... then you are just part of the "samsungs are my god" population.

i have a first gen thompson its loads great when it loads the rest of the time it gets a little confused saying either there is no disk or that the disk is dirty. which is pretty annoying considering its happened with halo 2 i just got. i know i should use a lens cleaner......but i am probbly just going to put a new drive an hd in it any i think the thommy is an ancient but thats what the floppy disk said to the zip

the misconception is that when thomsons get old they dont read as well, so it might have to try 2-3 times to read something before it picks up, giving the illusion that its loading slower, which i guess technically it is, but its really just taking longer to start loading, then it loads as fast
