If you corrupt something, and let it lose time, you're forced to hotswap or chip or something. I personally feel safer with a hardware mod. I know that softmods are a _lot_ better now than they used to be (especially with the advent of kernel specific fonts) but nevertheless...
I know I am going to get a lot of disagreements to that, but it's always fun to put in an opinion contrary to the norm
