Does the stock XBOX dvd drive enable you to burn your games/movies from your box onto CD/DVDs.... in other words what is the stock dvd drive and what is it capable of....

Nope, stock drive is read-only and for that matter, you are only going to have a read-only drive in your box (unless you installed linux in which case you might be able to put a writer in but it wouldn't matter as the new drive wouldn't be able to read xbox discs).

so are you saying even if i put a dvd drive that is capable of this in my xbox it still wont be able to do this??

yep. The drives used in the xbox have a special firmware that allows them to read xbox discs. Stick a non-xbox drive in there (with the exception of a few samsung's that are still read-only and require some modification) and the drive will NOT be able to read xbox games.
