if your aladdin is working just fine and your soldering skills are not very good i would just leave it.

well you need to do the reverse of the alad install almost i mean i bet some of the wires you can use but really if you cant look at the x3 install tut on their site and figure it out yourself then you really shouldn't be doing it at all ph34r.gif

sorry to be a bit harsh but hey its ture dont do it if you cant figure it out smile.gif

I've a FriendTech Bravo premod (uses Aladdin Advance, but also has P3 733 instead of Celeron and double the original memory) with the Conexant graphics chip (I've been told this is a 1.4 as the 1.5 has Focus).

What advantage would 'upgrading' to an Xecutor3 CE have over staying with the premod Aladdin? My objective is to run UnleashX and GenTooX, but I'm not sure whether I need all the bells-and-whistles the X3 has to offer, and whether it'd be worth the risk of soldering.

<flame>One more thing... I've dabbled in electronics for over 25 years and have used more solder, flux, irons and guns than I'd care to admit, but even after reading all there is to find on the exact process to remove and replace the specific modchips involved, I'd still like to see a step-by-step guide. Please don't be so condescending when the original poster simply wanted a bit of guidance. </flame>

Basically all the stuff connected to the chip needs to come out. Then follow the Xecuter guide to put the X3 in. Not that hard, but with limited soldering experience I would leave it alone.

they quicksolder theire chips onthe board. you are going to have to completely remove the mod chip using whick and a pump.. then solder on the 16 pin header in there.... 3 wires in the bottom and mission acomplished.

Thanks for the info. I was mildly curious what the other wires were used for, but figured no harm in removing them and following the X3 install instructions verbatim.

What I was more interested was what advantages X3 has over Aladdin, and whether it's worth the (small) effort and risk.

To answer my own question, the Aladdin has only one bank, and it's a small one. That's assuming I have a legit one (many clones) and that I can figure out how to access more of its functionality given their website is permanently down and even the clone makers don't have feature descriptions or anything beyond the mandatory install pics.

Xecutor3 appears to be well supported, with many flexible memory bank configurations, etc. Problem is, how would I customize the boot order like you can in the xecutor2 bios?
