Right, here's the deal - I know NOTHING about the inside of my Xbox, never modded it or even opened it. I loaned it to someone and it worked fine while he had it, except one day when we turned it on the green LED came on and the Xbox made a happy whirring sound but nothing came up on the television - the screen was just blank. I turned it off, waited for the hard disk to stop spinning, turned it on and it was fine.
Since I got it back the problem has gradually started occuring more and more frequently. When I press the power button I always get a constant green LED and a normal whirring noise but no signal and no sound from the TV, so I guess it can't be a problem with the power supply. If I press the eject button when its in this state the green LED starts flashing but nothing happens to the DVD drive, so it's not just a problem with the AV cable.
Usually I can eventually get it to work by turning the Xbox on, waiting, off, waiting, on, waiting... sometimes I just try this for 10 minutes then give up. There are no smells coming from the console, no wierd noises or anything. When I eventually get it turned on I have to eject the DVD drive before the game loads - if I press eject once a game has loaded or turn the console off it goes back to the same problem (green LED flashing, no picture on screen, DVD drive doesn't eject), so I can only play one game for each marathon attempt at booting up!
MS want just under current retail to repair it, which is ridiculous - it's only just out of guarantee. Just wanted to know if anyone's had a similar problem or knows what to do about it, or if I'm on my own on this one? As I said before I have no tech experience at all with consoles, but as far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with the dvd drive, the AV cable or the power supply itself. There's no way I can afford repairs or a new console, so any step-by-step instructions for possible fixes would be appreciated (if it helps at all altho I've never opened a console I've done some basic work inside PCs).
Please, please help!
