i know that there are plenty of replacing the DVD drive threads but i think my question is a little different.
my question is whether i should replace the drive myself or if i should send it to MS to get it repaired. I've been looking at the price of the drives and the prices are pretty similar. I have no experience in Xbox modding but I've built PCs so if replacing the drive on the xbox is anything like doing it on a PC i would have no trouble. thanks for the help |

Its a 5 minute job, just an IDE and power cable, M$ will rip you off and put a reconditioned drive in your box, shop around and get a new drive

Do it yourself and save yourself 30-50 dollars. It's as simple as unscrewing the old one and plugging the new one in in place. Remember that only DVD drives from Xbox's or hacked firmware flashed Samsung 616fs will work.
