Anywho, swapped out the chip from the functioning box. Installed all fine and good.

Box FRAG's almost instantly with a HDD connected, and after about 30 seconds with it unpluged. Never boots, gives a "Xbox needs service" error.

Could this be becasue I'm using a different Xbox HDD, and this box can't read it due to it being locked?

Ok, got the dead box to boot. Now, is there a way using Slayers, ETC, to set up the box to use the new HDD without a mod chip/softmod?

If you have a modchip or a TSOP flash, just load up the slayers disc and it will set up the new hdd for you.
