Here is the deal, just downloaded XBOX_Media_Center_2005-01-02_build-IND and im trying to connect to shares over the LAN.

I've got 3 PC's which i want it to connect to:
1. WINXP Sp2
2. WINXP Sp1
3. FreeBSD 4.8 with samba 3.0

On pc 1 and 2, ive set up one acount named "xbox", pass "password". Tested via simple and "secure" sharing with help from theese guides:
http://www.modzone.dk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=265
and
http://www.modzone.dk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=266

It will work on PC 2 (i can connect from xbmc to pc2), but not on PC1. When accessing pc 1 with xbmc i allways get "access denied". PC 2 on the other hand, cannot connect to PC1, i get this error message: "logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer"(this is when typing \\pc1 in explorer, hence i cannot even view the shares on pc1!). if i do in cmd "net view \\pc1" i get "System error 5 occoured, access is denied". Unless, i do a "net use \\PC1 password /user: xbox", then i can connect to PC1 from PC2. This problem occours also the other way around, from PC1 to PC2.

XBMC, on the other hand, still cant connect to PC1 or PC2. But, it can connect to PC3 running samba 3.0. The shares on PC3 have the args public = yes, and the server is also running as WINS master. PC1 and 2 can also connect to PC3 nicely.

I've tried to use log level 10 in XMBC.xlm, but i cannot find a log file, and of course, also tested to delete the cache in /E/ that belongs to XMBC.

PC1 and 2 is not running any form of firewall, so that shouldn't be a problem, since i do can connect to p1 from pc2 and vica versa with using net use.

Messing with this since i unpacked my xbox 12 o'clock today (5hours roughly), im stuck and have no f' idea whats wrong.

Thanks for all god sugestions!

Okey, dont know if any of this helps tough, but heres my recipe!

1. Use a firewall in your home lan.. D/L a free from zonealarm use that on all PC`s, and add the ip as trusted on all of them.

2. Disable simple file sharing. You then get a "security" window you can mess around with, if you FUKC up, it ends up locking your hdd, and you get a access denied, accesing your ordinary c:\ hdd on your PC...
Right click folders you want to share. Click security, click advanced there you can mess with permissions, auditing, owner, effective permission..
Try some of it out..
Worked for me at a friends place, there was one partition he couldent access from his xbox, neither from a local area network PC 2 PC.. Then i changed some settings, like adding this "user" to auditing, and owner or whatever, dont remember, long time since...
I would give it a try... Know what you are doing there....

Tried to change the network settings from inside xbmc, using default dash. Try dhcp there.. Or try setting up that dhcp adress you get, as a static adress...

I think this samba problem is due to XBOX_Media_Center_2005-01-02_build-IND sad.gif

I've been using an old cvs build (xbmc 1.1.0 CVS build 11-20-2004) for many weeks and my samba was flawlessly working.

My samba shares are described like this in xboxmediacenter.xml

QUOTE
    <bookmark>
      <name>PC - Répertoire DivX</name>
      <path>smb://pcmaison/Divx/</path>
    </bookmark>

where "pcmaison" is the name of my computer.
I had to enable 2 security rules in my WinXp pro :
- guest user may connect to this computer from a network
- the "everyone" security rules apply to guest users.

I will try to test a new cvs build... smile.gif

The newest CVS (4 jan 2005) I installed doesn't work too. sad.gif

But...
After many tries, i managed to use samba with the latest cvs build.

This share doesn't work :
QUOTE

      <path>smb://pcmaison/Divx/</path>
</bookmark>

Must be replaced by
QUOTE
<bookmark>
      <name>PC - Répertoire DivX</name>
      <path>smb://192.168.0.2/Divx/</path>
</bookmark>

192.168.0.2 is the ip address of the computer named "pcmaison"
xbox and Pc are linked to a router.

It seems that the newest builds of xbmc fail to retrieve the computer name.
May be there is a subtle trick I don't know... cool.gif
