If poker is a sport then why is it not in the Olympics?

Sports are defined as physical activit (more than sitting on your ass at hours on end, with only the movements of your hands to fold your cards)

there are many sports that arent in the olympics... would you define auto racing as a sport? what about american football for that matter.... neither are in the olympics... laugh.gif

OK people listen loud and clear. Poker is definitly a sprot. I have been playing for over a year and iit tkaes more skill than many other sports out there. YOu need to be wide awake analyzing every move an opneent makes. One mad move can cost you a lot of money. Poker now has one of the largest audiences in America and is one of the BEST sports on telivision. If it werent for poker i would not be able to be doing half the things i do today

it isn't a matter of whether the game is a sport or not. It is a game. To some, it is a sport. "sport" cannot be defined properly here. Simply because it is all how it is percieved. A lame example: to a hair stylist, clipping is a sport.

And as someone mentioned previously, luck IS involved. It is hard to deny it. But poker also has other variables involved. Such as, skill (how well you hide your expressions and tells, making good moves, reading other players), WHO is playing, the number of people playing, your chipstack at any give time...there is countrless variables which can determine who wins the game. The same can be said of many sports.
All I'm saying is, Poker is a sport to some people.

In poker, there is luck involved, yet very little in the popular game of no limit-holdem.
In no limit hold-em, it really doesnt matter what the cards are. It all depends on position and how you play your hand. If i have a 7-2 offsuit, and I make you believe I have AA......then would I not have AA?

The same 8 proffesionals make it too the final table at the WSOP every year, are these the luckiest people in the world? No, they have mad poker skills.
