i'm a noob (ergo posting in the noob forum). is there a solderless chip for version 1.6 or not? i know zilch about soldering and don't even want to mess with it. i'll even wait a couple months for a truly solderless chip for 1.6 if i have to. but i'm reading conflicting claims as to whether there is a solderless 1.6 chip. also, another noob question: is the modchip all i'm going to need to play my backup games? i'm definitely going to add a large hdd in the future but for now i'd like to at least be able to play my backups.

ah...so you had a chip that COULD be solderless, but didn't have a solderless adapter.

The chip, the xenium ice is already avalible, so is the solderless adapter but it only works with versions 1.0-1.5, the 1.6 version will be released (im not sure, it'll be on there site)

It looks easy to install

I'd buy it over a spiderchip, it is a very popular chip, its personal preferance, but for the price, the xenium has all the features you'll need.

Xeniums are great chips, very newbie friendly, I have 2. The most popular chips around here seem to be the X3 and Xenium, it's really kind of a tie at this point. I heard Xecuter was working on some sort of solderless solution but I don't really follow their efforts.

oh, okay ... that's the video i saw before that confused me as to whether or not there was a solderless chip for 1.6. i was perplexed when i saw the xenium ice for sale on sites but with a disclaimer saying it wouldn't work solderless with 1.6. guess i'll just wait until the solderless adapter is available. does the xenium ice have everything a user could possible want as far as technical specs? right now i'm a noob but once i get a chip and start using it i'll catch on and want to do some other cool modding to my xbox. just want to make sure this xenium ice chip has all the capabilities i'll want in the future.

I'm the same as you Merlin. I know nothing about soldering and don't really want to mess with it. So far I've been dabbling in softmods, but I've been wanting to step up to a modchip, lights, and stuff like that. I'm thinking about selling my softmodded 1.6 and getting a 1.0 or a 1.1 or something, putting a solderless Xenium ICE in, and maybe the XCLAW from thexboxspot biggrin.gif People think softmods and solderless stuff is gay for some reason, they just don't understand that for some people, the only place they have to mod is on their mom's kitchen table, lol. And I know my mom wouldn't like it if I burnt a hole in her table cloth.

yes, i think i will wait for this xenium ice with solderless adapter to come out. i'm broke at the moment anyway. soon after i get a chip, i'm going to install a nice 200+ gb hdd, and maybe one of those cool-looking lcd's. i built my own computer as a noob so i can't imagine i'll have too hard a time modding my xbox. some of that stuff is amazing, though ... saw a photo of an xbox modded into the chassis of a millenium falcon toy. if i had the know-how, i would mod my xbox into that gi joe space shuttle i had when i was younger. laugh.gif
