hey there guys. i was just thinkign something.
can you go out and buy a bottom line p4 with hyper threading, then just overclock it up to around 3.6 ghz?
is there a hardware difference between the frequency of teh processors for sale?
coz it would be heaps cheaper to buy a slower processor, then speed it up using overclocking.

can it be done, or does the hardware of teh cpu prevent this much overclocking?

With good memory, I can get my 3.0E processor to 3.5Ghz on air.. I've got a water cooling system waiting to be installed, we'll see how that goes. I think 3.6Ghz is the max (240Mhz FSB),

That really depends on what motherboard you get.

And no two processors behave exactly the same. Someone may get a 3.0 up to 3.5, and you may cap out at 3.1. It depends on how lucky you get, how cool your system is, etc.

Cooling is a bit of a science. You need intake, and exhaust. You need to control where airflow travels. 20 fans does not necessarily make a cool system.

well there you go. it is all about airflow when cooling something.

so its not advisable to get a bottom line p4 w1mb L2 cache and see how fast i can make it?

ok then, how do i go about overclocking a celeron with a Sapphire Axion MA-39 mobo?
