no one is probably going to answer me because this is a dumb question but here it goes.... I tried hotswapping my xbox HD so i could put games on my HD, well since it was unmodded, i coulndt save my files. Well, now i have no hard drive, i have " christmas lights". since there is no solution to this, is there any way i can take an old pc computers hard drive and put it into my xbox as a replacement?????
If so, how do i clean out my pc hard drive and what should i put on the hard drive to make it like a brand new xbox HD....Thanks

Need a little more info, I guess you are not getting an error number on screen? If not a version 1.0 xbox, and since you have no eeprom backup, a new hard drive is out of the question unless you got a chip handy.

The xbox not need being modded wouldnt matter about the ability to place files on the xbox hd, you just couldnt access them thru the ms dash. It would need to be replaced with an exploit, UXE for example.

well basically i have a 1.6 xbox, no error number, no anything, i dont get the "flubber" or anthing, just the blinking eject light. Now when it first happened, i decided to plug the IDE cable from my pc back into the xbox hdd , (dont know if i was using the right IDE cable, that was part of why i screwed up, the tutorials arent really that detailed...) and just got a message to call customer service... so now my xbox just blinks red a green, "christmas lights" and i have been all over every board, throught hundreds of posts, and no one seems to know how to fix this situation...so my only hope w/o spending money was to either a) try to hotswap again and actually get the boot disc to work ( 2nd reason why i screwed up) or try to throw a regular pc HDD in.... who knows...

p.s. i was trying to hotswap with xboxhbm and ude 1.4 but i couldnt get the boot disk to work, and the pc wouldnt load into windows because the IDE cable was out..i couldnt figure it out

Make sure your bios can boot from cd rom. 2nd try my hotswap you should be able to still use that method as long as your not getting and error 5-6 (you have an older box that doesn't get the numbers). It has details and pic's also use daddyj's..

1. i did not save my eeprom because i couldnt not get the boot disk to work, and since my xbox doesnt have a chip, and i couldnt ftp to my xbox, i basically had to hot swap and get the cd to boot but an error message that the cd wouldnt boot, and in the startup the pc was on a loop saying to "put in the system disk". so i think because the ide cable was disconnected, i think windows wouldnt load since there was no hard drive connected...i dont know... eventually the computer shuts off, and there went my xbox.
I mean i am just trying to figure out if i can hot swap again with a program sort of like a recovery disk, with all the data on the disc, like a pc, or cool.gif put a computers hdd into my xbox, and start a new

I have a 1.6 xbox so i do get error numbers, but not with this problem, and i tried to get my bios to boot the cd by going into the bios settings in the beginning of start up, and put my fisrt boot as the cd drive, and it didnt work. I used nero like every one said, however nero wouldnt let me use the selection "burn raw data". i also used a cd-r to make a boot disk but i thought it wouldnt matter since it was going in my pc, not my xbox.

I am open to any suggestions.....all i know is i want to get my xbox back, im in withdrawal

well thats a funny story..... no due to my being impatient and nervous about screwing up my xbox(i had been reading every tut on hot swapping for the past 3 days) that the boot disc wouldnt load, then an error would come up saying i couldnt load a drive, therefore windows wouldnt load up, and in a moment of confusion, i didnt know what to do, and i shut off the power to my xbox like a moron, big no no....that is why it is all the damn boot disc fault, it confused the **** out of me....

Well in order for you to use your xbox again without chipping it, you will need to see at least the flubber. Your xbox needs to boot in order to unlock the HD. Don't worry about xboxhdm for now, first u need to get ur xbox booting.

2 simple steps:

-Check your video cable! (no screen, and red/green blinking led can be that your video cable is unplugged.. just checking)
-Check the IDE cable in your xbox

No video at all means ur xbox is.. a box of spare parts. Mostly.

well i am not sure what happened. I am about to try all the various stuff everyone has been saying, because my hd might have burned out, or i might have locked, either way i think im screwed but....

TO clear up how i screwed up... i couldnt get my boot cd or windows to load, but my xbox was connected to my pc's via IDE cable. So i then proceeded to shut off my xbox. The screen went green, and then black. I tried to hot swap again but my xbox wouldnt load. So i then, for the heck of it, plugged my pc's IDE cable back into the xbox hdd and an error message came up. forget the number. so it seems that to get anything from my xbox, it must be connected to my pc's mobo

i thought of a solution but im not sure if its gonna work plus if ur hd is burned out(check if ur pc can find ur XBOX hd on the BIOS first), then a modchip is ur only way out!

k, first off u need to get a ms virtual pc(the trial version can be downloaded on ms), then plug ur xbox hd into ur pc (both ide and power cable, hotswapping does not require ur xbox to be on, so just put ur console aside), boot to windows, run virtual pc, create a virtual pc, blah blah... but remember this, ur virtual pc's primary hd must be pointed to ur xbox hd which can be done by virual pc's virtual disk wizard function, then try booting up the virtual machine with ur xboxhdm cd in (this time u better make sure ur cd reads absolutely fine), or u can read it straight from iso file, if it boots to the option screen, then pick the first option, it will get u to the xboxhdm, and u can rebuild ur hdd there, this method would be good because it skips the hdd lock/unlock processes that screwed me once, and this tool have saved my ass so many times, good luck!

i'm pretty sure you'll get the flubber screen even if you boot an xbox without a hard drive....i'm thinking that if there's a problem with your xbox, it's something to do with hardware other than your hard drive.

I agree, I think he messed something else up. It's actually a little hard to understand what exactly he did by his posts. There a little unclear and scattered. Some parts make it sound as if he had the IDE cable going from his PC to the Motherboard in his xbox and not just the harddrive.

And as far as the virtual PC goes. Would'nt you still need your xbox to unlock the drive? I mean if you don't have your eeprom how's your PC going to unlock the drive?

no, in virtual pc, lock/unlock have nothing to do with the hd rebuild because ur hd will only be recognised as a virtual hd
