It's because you probably have a 1.6, in which case you can't really do anything about it. I recommend using ssh for the install.

I've also got a v1.6, and had the same problem. I had no difficulty installing over SSH, but am now trying to get full-screen viewing in the installed GentooX.... Is this possible? This whole system isn't very useful as a MythTV Frontend (my intended use) without full-screen viewing. smile.gif

If you have a HDTV/EDTV, or anything else that can receive a 480p signal (such as a computer monitor via an X2vga or VD-Z3), then you can get full screen by running xbvset and selecting HDTV>480p.

unfortunately, this is not the case....

I've done some more searching today, and now understand that this problem stems from a lack of understanding of the new (proprietary) video chip in the v1.6 xbox's, the Xcalibur.

The most recent posts I've found on this topic are from two months ago. Does anybody know if there has been any progress in the last two months on figuring this thing out?

I don't think they can figure it out because they need the data sheet for the encoder, and I don't think MS is going to give it to them wink.gif

Unless there's some s00p3r 1337 H4x0r out there that can some how fix the overscan on 1.6's (which would probably be kinda hard to do without any instructions on how to operate the encoder), the chances of the overscan on 1.6's being fixed is pretty much zero. Although I'd be glad if someone could make me eat my words.
