My bro has an xbox thats been functioning fine for months

With mod chip enabled it wont boot at all and recycles power before fraggging

with modchip disabled he gets error code 5

it has a 200gb hdd installed and has worked fine for months and the bios hasnt been changed coz he wouldnt know what that is

any ideas what has f**ked up?

Sounds like your modchip has become mis-aligned and that's why it is fragging when you cut the xbox on.

Also, error 5 means your xbox hard drive is not locked. The msdash cannot boot on an unlocked hard drive, so that's why you are getting the error.

Check out your modchip and make sure it's aligned properly.

Did you use a solderless adapter or did you solder the modhip to the motherboard?

If you soldered it, check your solder job closely to make sure some points are touching eachother.

If you used the solderless adapter then it's a possibility that it slipped off the LPC points on the motherboard.

Also, what version Xbox do you have

One other thing. Did you recently flash the modchip? Also try to boot the xbox with bank 1 selected and then try with bank 2 selected.

I don't know if you have done this already or not.

i paid for it to be soldered so i will have to get someone to check that bit out for me

not to flashing, but yes to trying both banks

well it wouldnt hurt to pop the case and see if there is anythign that is obviously wrong.
