In that case, the standby is 5v, not 3.3.

From what I've read on how others have done it...  Simply wire the positive side of the LED to the 5v standby (using a resistor of course), and the negative side of the LED to a regular 5v source.  This way, when the xbox is off, the regular 5v will act as a ground, turning the LED on, and once you turn the xbox on, the 5v line will go high, canceling the current to the LED.

In short... xbox off, light on ... xbox on, light off.

Nope. The combine current with the xbox on is 0v...
Ex: 5v (SB) - 5v = 0 volts when on. 5v (SB) - 0v = 5v when off.

Why not get a bicolor led and have it one color when on and another when off??? It's not the same as dim/bright, but it would still look cool. You could have it red when in standby and have it green or whatever color your power led ring is when it's on...

If you're saying that there's no power when the xbox is off... then you didn't read my previous post. The 1.6 power supply has a 5v standby line that is always on, whether the xbox is on or not. Not sure what else you're trying to ask.

Well jared, I see what you are saying about the 5v cancelling out and whatever. But what about on my 1.0.. since its 3.3 from the PSU and 5v... well i suppose i would just put a resistor on the 5v to bring it to 3.3?? I'm kinda confused

Wow. That was a quick response! jester.gif

You could use a NAND gate to turn the LED on/off. When the gate gets + voltage from the power supply (+5v when turned on), the LED would go off. When the Xbox is then turned off, the gate would receive 0v and the led would turn on (using the standby power).

You would wire it like this:

...man I love those gates...... biggrin.gif

Well i did it like he said anyways... and its PIMP!

I used two 5mm UV LED's. They are rated at 3.3v anyways... so it worked out fine. I put the positive lead to standby power, and then connected the ground lead to the 5v lead (trust me) on the mobo plug... and used a 91 ohm resistor here. What happens is when the xbox is off, it is using standby for power, and the 5v lead is acting as a ground, and the resistor is ignored.

Then when you turn on the box, the 5v lead is activated as actual 5v positive, which runs up through the resistor and into the LED. Since the resistor i used is a 91 ohm, it brings that 5v lead down to 3.3v.

So, having 3.3v connected to BOTH legs of the LED when the box is on causes the two voltages to cancel out since there the same and coming from two directions. And voila... the LED's are now off. Woot. And when you turn the box back off, the LED's are shining pretty. Woot woot.

I hope that makes sense... and it works awesome. If i could remember my password for photobucket i would put up a pic of the final product.

good luck trying it!
