if i want to put a new hdd in my xbox does it have to be a certain rpm? like can it be 7200...i know that the stock is 5400

yes it can be 7200rpm, I think any rpm will work (please correct me if in wrong)

There really is no noticable difference between the two...unless you're really anal about that kind of stuff

I had a maxtor 120 gig 7200 RPM hard drive in mine and work great. As far as speed goes i didnt that much of a difference. If you want to see a increase in speed upgrade the cable from a ata100 to a ata133. I believe the increase in speed is 33%.
