Alright i made a small jewel clearing thread because too many have asked( i bet you some still will but noobs are noobs)

Remeber do this on your own risk

Removing The Jewel

There are two mainly used ways to remove a jewel

The Hairdryer Method: This method is probally the quickest. To do this you first get a hairdryer and you aim it under the backside of the jewel. You keep if thier on high speed until the plate under the jewel is just hot enough to touch. Then you take a jewelers screw driver and pry underneath and remove the jewel

The Freezer Method: You put the top of the case in the freezer and let is cool for about 2 or so hours or even over night. Then you take a rubber mallet or a shoe and give the back of the jewel a couple of good whacks and the jewel should pop right off




Okay now here is the front of a stock jewel



Here is the back of a stock jewel with the adhesive removed



Note: to get the black adhesive off of the jewel you use your fingernail to pick it up then push with your thumb this will make the process go quicker

These are some chemicals that you might have in your house that might work to clear your jewel




From left to right -
Easy Off Oven Cleaner
Non Acetone Nail Polish Remover
Brasso Metal Polish
Goo Gone
Adhesive Remover

Most of these should be found at a local harware store or ask your mom or a sister for these items. Use non - acetone nail polish remover because acetone can cloud up the jewel. Now i chose to use brasso since it gives the best results.Now take some brasso and put it on a rag and buff away. After about 30 - 45 min of solid buffing oyu should have somthing like this

Making A Lip for the Jewel


After you have cleared your jewel it is time to make a jewel hole so that the jewel can sit on the case while you have an led ring or a cathode. To do this i found that using a 2.5 hole saw makes the cleanest cuts and it is also quick.

Here is a pic of a drill with a 2.5 inch holesaw



Here is another pic (you should do it with the case backwards or opposite of the pic meaning you drill the hole from the backside this is because you get more pressure)



This is how it looks after you made the hole(yours shouldnt be scratched as much this happens when you have retarded cuzins)

to secure your jewel you can use hot glue i find it the best because its not permanent but it doesnt move. Hope you this tut helpful!

Dammit thats why my jewel's so cloudy...how do I clean up the cloudiness? Will brasso do it?

that should work if not you can try tooth paste on a rag to clear it up

A few days too late for me.. I already cleared it. I scratched it up bad and had to use sandpaper to get it to look decent. Still is a little cloudy, but I've alreadyt hot glued it down and don't care.

Nice job. Yesterday I was trying to clear a jewel for a friend with brasso and it took SO LONG! getting the silver stuff off was a very paintful process, but the green was pretty easy. I personally prefer using non-acetone nailpolish remover, because its so quick, but I recently got a cloudy jewel using that method. If only brasso was quicker...

Anyway, like I said, nice job!

im in the process of clearing it now with easy off oven cleaner but i was wondering when i install it back for a LED mod ur supposed to cut a hole and leave a LIP for it to lay on..... but i was wondering how to secure it???

hot glue works best this way if you want to take it out you can always peel it off just make sure you apply the hot glue so none of it is showing

oven cleaner ony removed the silver lettering for me

to get the paint off i sanded the grean off with 120 then worked up to 1500

oh yea i forgot to mention another wy of clearing the jewel

you work your way up with sand paper i would recommend 250 - 400 - 1200 -1500 - if you have 2000 - then polish with toothpaste


and for little scratches you can put a layer of clear coat on the jewel
