I want to get a new xbox but i want to make sure it has a Samsung drive in it. Does anyone know from what date MS started putting in the Samsung drives?

Since about aug 2004. You will be disappointed the SDG-605f incl. other xbox ROMS are substandard drives when compared against std PC rom like the SD-616E modded to run dual f/w( Turbo Drive). My suggestion get a xbox unit( new or old) have it chipped throw away the ROM and replace it with a turbo drive....... you will be impressed.

I think it's a crap shoot!...I have seen samsung's in just about every version...I opened a 1.0 the other day and found one in there...Truth is I have no problems with Thompson's or Phillips. I have opened xboxes and it looks like a dust bowl inside, has a Thompson and people blame them for DDE...solution, keep a clean environment and just about anything will work!

i got a samsung drive from ebay with a manufacturing date of march 2002 on it so i think your estimation of 2004 is a bit wrong!
No they are correct. You realise there are 2 types of samsung Drive. the one you have from ebay is the early model whcih is supposedly good. the new 2004 ones are not as good.

WOW...this is so annoying i just want to get an xbox that i can count on to play xbox live. I have another xbox that i have modded but i got that one banned (the mod chip was off i don't know how ) so any new xbox will do that, and will last until xbox 2?
