I got a new router because my old one was defective and couldn't download packets correctly.
With the old router, I would just put in "Automatic" for the ISP and DNS screens on the Xbox Live connect menu. That doesn't work now. My new router is a modem and router in one, if that matters. What should I do to so I can connect? |

Do I need to reset it maybe? or find the addresses to put in the Xbox Live menu?
I suck at the internet. |

I honestly think it is probably a very simple issue that just eludes me because I have minimal knowledge on how computers/ip addresses and such work.

You need to provide more information. Are you connecting wireless or wired to the router? Is the xbox being assigned IP addressing when set to DHCP? Or it is but just wont connect to LIVE? If so then is your router compatible with XBL? If it is compatible you may have a MAC address problem within the router itself.

Ok here is what it says when I set IP and DNS to "Automatic"
"No DNS Server addresses were recieved from the DHCP or PPPoE server. Enter the DNS Server(s) provided by your ISP in the Network Settings menu." I am connected wirelessly. I doubt the router is incompatible. |

Well then enter the DNS manually if thats what its asking for. You can find your ISP's DNS servers by logging into the router and checking the status page or connection info page.

Hello again. I found and entered the DNS and secondary DNS into the menu, as well as the IP, gateway, and subnet mask. It still wouldn't connect :/
