Tell me you want to sit there and tape off all that.

hmm... I think you are going to have a tough time painting any route you go for masking. That had to take some serious time to cut.

I really think tape is the way to go for this project. I have never worked with the liquid masking before but I think you would have a harder time with it rather than tape. Just buy some of the really wide painting tape and start cutting.

Another idea might be clear contact paper. Then you could be able to see exactly where you are cutting when you trim it all.

I'm afraid with tape that it'll seep through some points, because this thing isin't one perfect smooth top. It has a few groves from point to point. Also, a knife might damage the resin.

Yeah, I immediately dismissed putty. It's too stiff to get into the tiny parts.
EDIT: The resin is already there, for the windows. It's about 1,000,000,000,000,000 times easier than trying to get a perfect plexi fit.

But if my years of being a child have taught me anything, it's that if you let silly putty sit for an hour, it starts to smooth out. I need perfectly sharp points.

Holy crap! I just might use tape after all!

This stuff smells HORRIBLE!
I've been breathing resing and paint fumes for ages, so my sense of smell has got to be diminished... and this stuff still is that bad!

Maybe this stuff isin't the miracle I thought it was. It tends to shrink after it dries, so it's very hard to put exaclt where you need it. And it comes off in one peice. Meaning that if part dries on the brush, and sticks to the part that's already on... a whole bunch is going to come off.

Good for getting hard to reach areas though, I suppose.

alright im going to give you a old auto paint secret........some times this doesnt work but most of the time it does....ok go to your local covenent store and get a bottle of liquid tide. brush it on and then waite for it to dry. then paint over it. some times the paint will eat off the liquid tide but most of the time it works fine......i would test it on somthing first. or if you want somthing that really works. get out your phone book and look under paint. look for a company called Sherwin Willams. call them up and ask for Slime(Or liquid mask) and they willhave it. we use it at my work.

and if you go to your local vynil/sign store ask if they have any 3M PaintMask. its a huge roll of vynil protectent that you can paint right over.....a good company to get it from is Montroy Supply(i dont know if they are national tho)

i hope this helps

couldn't you just use the kinda paint "they" use to paint the bodies of people? the kinda stuff that like peels off after it dries? wouldn't the same apply to an xbox? or no, because of the different surface types?

if the liquid mask don't work. go to an body shop / paint store and get some vinyl masking tape. it won't let the paint bleed if u make sure that it's down all the way. but you have to act kinda fast cause vinyl tape will start to curl after a goot 5-6 hrs. so you can't mask it at night and paint the next day (i've made that mistake before) but since you have the liquid mask already handy, why not just slop in on and make sure everythings coverd, then cut it w/ a x-acto?? you'll be sure to get the penetration blink.gif into the plastic you need plus you get the intricate cutting patterns. win-win! biggrin.gif

I thought about cutting the liquid masking stuff too. It likes to stick together, so if you miss even the smallest bit when cutting, the whole thing rips up at once sad.gif

I'm just slowly taping it. dry.gif
Sigh, oh well. grr.gif
