To give you a little background, i used to have a xbox a long time ago that i modded with a Chameleon + solderless (don't even make those anymore i see?) But after a year or so it started acting up on me so i took it out and sold the xbox
but the time has come for me to get a new xbox and mod it. Basically, what version would i be likely to get if i went to EB and bought an xbox tomorrow? 1.5 or 1.6 are the newest and most likely to be bought? But depending on which model i get, what is the best mod chip that has a solderless adapter out there. I'm really clueless about soldering and i'd be much more comfortable doing a solderless adapter job, as i've done it before. any help is appreciated. i'm basically just curious what the best solderless mod chip is out there for the new xbox models, and what i should buy. |

Well, if he isn't going to be goofing around w/ an LCD or anything why an X3? It's not needed. Don't get me wrong I have an X3 with the works and I'm not complaining. Also if he is planning on getting on XBL with it, thats a another question. If not, I would recomend an Xenium Ice w/ a S.P.I.C.E. adapter. But if he wants to get on to XBL I'd suggest an X2.6CE or somthing similar.... but the Xdapter won't work for a 1.6, I know. The soder job on any of the X's is east though. I'd go Executer for reliabillity and the XBL option but Xenium Ice for easy and done.
PS: X 2.6CE's are abput 35 bucks opposed to 60+ for the others This post has been edited by hybridflux: Apr 15 2005, 09:48 AM |

Why not work out the price for a pre-mod with a cheaper soldered in chip. Ready to roll straight away, soldered chip and full warranty from the place you buy it.

Depends on what you expect/want from a mod.
v1.5 or lower : look also into TSOP Flash or Softmod. v.1.6+ : Look into softmod. Plenty of info in the appropriate sections of this forum (for softmod, check XBE Exploit section.) For 95%+ of the options there's no difference in chip/TSOP/Softmod, apart from the fact the last 2 are free. |
