OK, had my first backing up problem. Had a game that was copied to the HDD and was locking up. Then tried to run from the Disc and it locked up at the same place. Tried clearing the cache and whatever and no luck. Remembered people mentioning the X,Y and Z drives so had a look there. I found that the Y drive had a crapload of the same files from the game I was trying to run. I deleted those and everything was jammin'.
Anyway, my question is, what are the X,Y and Z partitions for, how did a crapload of files end up on there without me knowing and why did that cause the game to freeze at the same stage on loading up?

I appreciate the help from anyone who can clear up what all this is about.
thanks

X,Y & Z are all used for temporary storage of game and dashboard files. Since your xbox copied a file that was incomplete to this temporary space it was trying to load it instead of the actual file copied to your hdd.

Caster.

Edit - if you ever have this problem, clearing these folders and e:\cache should fix it. If not, your disc is likely messed.
