I tried working it off a disc, too. I couldn't get it to work. So I copied Halo 2 to my hard drive and replaced the default.xbe file there. That worked for me. If you have a DVD burner, just make a backup of Halo 2 with the new default.xbe. The updated xbe file is 4780 mb, while the original xbe is 4748 mb. This way you can tell them apart. Just make sure u do it, bcuz they fixed (almost) everything that they screwed up the first time.
