I am fragging when my chip is plugged into the pinheader. When it is removed, the system boots normally (so my d0 is correct). I tested the volts from each LPC pin, and they are all proper:
1 = .2 2 = 0 3-5 = 3.3 6 = 5 7-11 = 3.3 12 = 0 What could the issue be? Should I be focusing on the bios at this point? |

one of the pins could be loose, i had that problem before, when you pest it you are putting pressure of the pin and it makes contact witht he LPC bus, but with the chip on it doesnt touch
it could also be bios or chip type, what version xbox, what chip are yo uusing and what bios (if any) is on it? This post has been edited by lordvader129: May 4 2005, 08:48 PM |

I have an X-Chip, with the evox_xchip1.3 bios. I have a v1.0 xbox.
I've tried it with the basic cromwell bios and that doesn't work either though. When my xbox frags, it attempts to boot twice, then turns back on and blinks christmas lights. |

Measuring voltages on the LPC is no exact guaranteethat everything is ok. Some of the signals can only accurately be checked with a scope.
There is an LPC guide in my signature with the resistance to ground of every pin on the LPC. It may not help but if you check those instead of the voltages you will know if one is out by a long way where the trouble lies |

Ok, so I unplugged my modchip from the pinheader, set the clock on my xbox to today's date. I then plugged the modchip back in. Still frags. I unplug the modchip again and the xbox has magically forgotten the date again.

What Chip? what Bios on the chip?
The problem is install related and the clock resets due to the frag. The clock not set would not cause fRAG. It would just go to the clock screen to be set if the chip was working correctly. As mentioned and I have to agree the soldering and the LPC are the problems most likely. Can you put up a picture of the install? |

I have the X-Chip, flashed with the EvoX_Xchip1.3 bios. Unfortunately, a friend is borrowing my camera so I can't take a pic.
I was able to do a bit more diagnostics. I used that LPC diagram and tested continuity between the noted holes (not sure what to call them, the little ones like the top d0) and the actual pins sticking out of my header pins. In all cases, I had continuity. I also tested the resistance and everything seemed fine. |

I am having the same problem with an Xecuter 2.6 CE in a v1.6 xbox. But if I take out the chip, it still does the horrible boot twice, then christmas lights.

Alright, I finally got it working. I took out the chip completely and took off every single rebuild wire. I really, really inspected the lpc and found that a couple had connections, but only on one side of the pin. I resoldered those and made sure they were touching the actual metal ring on the outside of the holes. I also redid my wire rebuild and it works now. Thank god!
