Since we can run games from our hard drive, there is really no purpose for using a cd drive. Is there a way to remove? If I try and boot right now I get a error code: 12? Is there anyway around this error? What is causing it, is it looking for a power signal or something more complex?

Edit your bios in XBTool or EVTool and uncheck 'DVD Drive check'.

it cant be done on a softmodded xbox, you need a modchip or a flashed TSOP

Is there any way to hard wire it so it thinks that a dvd drive is hooked up?

What exactly is the xbox looking for when it does that check?

its looking fo rthe dvd drive, there is a back and forth exchange of data that cant be replicated by just crossing a few wires, you need the actual dvd drive there

i gave you your other options, modchip or TSOP flash
