I'm not too sure on what to look for in a mod chip. All I want to do is run Linux and use EvoX (as well as use it to test my OpenXDK apps), and I'm not exactly *sure* about my soldering skills. What should I be seeking?

Open up your xbox and take a look at the size of the work you have to do. Then get an old NIC or something else like that to practice soldering on. Why does everyone always have a drawer full of old NICs?

LOL! I don't know but I actually do. I still have no clue on what mod chip to buy (I don't care about solder or non-solder I guess.)

If you have the cash, get an X3 or Xenium, those are both really nice chips. I personally like the Xenium, easy to flash and the guide they have online is simple to follow.

I tried to softmod two xboxen last night. One worked great (both had started with the same error, code 16).
The second one just wouldn't get past the error. We hotswapped the harddrive, and on the winders box ran the xboxhd program. It seemed to go on fine, but when we switched the harddrive cable back and rebooted the xbox, same error 16. So, it appears I will need to use a modchip to get this thing to work. My n00b questions are: 1) can I buy an older modchip to get the machine booted up and apply the softmod, then remove the modchip? or 2) is it possible to do the TSOP flashing to a box that has this error? or, if those two won't work, and I know this has been asked over and over... 3) can you recommend a modchip...I use the xbox as a frontend for mythtv, I do play some games on it too, but nothing on Live. Sorry in advance.... |

I am a complete and total noob to the mod-chip langauge, and am hoping to soon learn it like I did the PC language.
My question is this. I am on a budget, and need a chip that's solderless, easy to use, will let me keep live, and will let me run a dashboard of my choice. Which one is the cheapest that will let me do this. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out. This post has been edited by BongoBob: Jun 13 2005, 07:03 AM |

I was wondering if there is a mod chip that meets these requirements:
1. Alows you to have hacks (like jumping really high, or spawning useful thing as a result of shooting). 2. Download stuff from the internet like the hacks and game saves. 3. Can be turned on and off to go on live. 4. Does this without the use of an extra hard drive or OS. |
