QUOTE(Mr Ed @ May 26 2005, 12:54 PM)
That's cool for you.  As for me, I can't wait to get my movies in HD resolution even if it means replacing all my DVDs.  It'll be more than worth it.  I've had movies on VHS (all replaced with DVD by now) and LaserDisc, and D-VHS (1080i HD), and am just waiting to get them on BluRay.

I also already own an HDTV, as do all my friends with XBOXs.  One of the reasons I chose the XBOX over the PS2 was because of its HDTV support.  Whichever system supports HD better is the one I'm getting.

That describes my situation to a tee. Once you experience HD, you want everything to be in HD. It's an amazing picture.

Maybe they will cahnge it so games come on their own harddrive you plug in like a cartridge, with a read-only partition and a r/w partition, so game performance is increased.

All of this talk about the Xbox 360's lack of HD-DVD or Blu-Ray is a waste of time.
Allard already said that M$ is willing to offer either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray support in future Xbox 360 models, depending on which format becomes the standard....

So please people, bury this topic once and for all....

yeah, there would probably also be bluray/hd-dvd mods/replacements for the 360. seems likely.
what is the size of the 360's dvd drive? laptop dvd-rom size or desktop?

All it is, is an attempt to gain a better market share by MS. They wan't to play it safe right now and not go one way or the other. They would lose a ton more money if they went one way and the consumers went the other. Once "the standard" is made they will be able to put out something to accomidate. On top of that they will be able to make MORE money by selling these special "add-ons". Though it is not pleasing to most, it is a smart financial move.

Personally I think the whole Blu-ray / hd-dvd isn't as compelling as DVD format shift was.

Most consumers can not even tell the different between VHS and DVD formats, with DVD having nearly 3 times the visual information per frame.
(240x486=116640, 640x480=307200)

The main driving force for the HD television shift will be the console games, which small screen elements are important to see. Split screen mode really suffers because of the limited resolution that a standard television can deliver.

When HD/DVD becomes the defining standard I personally won't be using my console to play the movie content, just like I don't use my Xbox to play DVD's. I will purchase a good quality second generation player. When the technology is new, the first generation equipment always has problems.

Is the main reason for people wanting the inclusion of HD/DVD due to HD movie content, or simply capacity? Personally I don't find either of these compelling enough to warrent the inclusion of a more expensive player in the x360.

One thing that people seem to forget about the 360 is that it will have way better texture compression then the Xbox. With the powerful cpu you can run higher res textures in high compression. You could probably fit around 20gb of data compressed (or more) in a regular DVD9.
