How do DVD+ media read?

I can deal with the flashing in Step 1 and the soldering in Step 3...but what the hell is Step 2? I'm guessing that means it will force the drive to read the outside of the disc first, but I don't know what's involved in doing this.

dvd+r/rw doesn't read at all for me but dvd-r/rw works perfect and even originals

edit: forgot to add that the dvd+ is bruned by a friend of mine.i'm not sure if it's burned properly and can't test it 'cause i have a pioneer a05

oooonm it says where...but how do u know which yellow wires to connect to wut

just look at the tutorials here for the replacement drives.i connected it like mentioned there to the ic and the yellow cables too

no i connected the 12v,5v and both gnd's of the yellow cable to the drive but a power splitter would do the same thing

The tutorials say to plug in a power splitter from hdd and into the dvd...but u need the yellow wires to eject and stuff i thought
