I installed a Xecuter 2.6 CE chip into my box correctly and I was able to get to the cromwell flash screen. I flashed the xbox as I normally do and everything appeared to work correctly.

But here's the problem. When the chip is enabled the xbox will boot normally but with no video. All you can hear is the audio background of the M$ dash.

I tryied to boot using the Slayer's Auto-Installer (which has worked before) but it seems the xbox tries to read the Cd-RW and then gives up and boots the M$ Dash with no video.

Please help, any input is greatly apreciated.

here's a little bit more information:
- The box came with one of the crappy Thompson drives. It took a few tries for the drive to even recognize the bios when first flashing the chip
- I ended up using another CD drive that was sitting around to flash the chip, instead of the one that came with the original xbox (looking back this may have been stupid).
- When the chip is enabled and the Slayer's CD is in the drive, it takes a while before the original xbox dash will boot. Seems that it's trying to read the cd and then quits.

Did you flash a v16 bios to the chip (I am assuming that you do not have a v1.6 box since it came with a Thommy)? Did you flash both banks or just one?

I flashed a v1.6 to bank 1. I'm working with a v1.0 xbox.

Also, I've used the same bios for someone else's xbox, which also was a v1.0. I didn't have any troubles that time around.

Is there a way to try and reflash the chip without using a programer?

make a bios disc with the right bios, preferably like this
Bank 1 and 2 with the RIGHT bios
Bank 3 and 4 with flashbios

That way if it has issues on bank one then you can go back to the other bank and try again. Make the bios disc, then boot it up and insert the disc after a few seconds and it should flash it.

sorry to be a pain. But the modchip I own, to my knowledge only has two banks.

When I flashed my chip I used a 1 mb bios. so I think it started to load half the program on bank 1 and then everything else spilled over to bank 2. So should I try to create a bios cd with a 516 kb bios on it?

The X2.6 chip has a switch between banks 1 and 2. bank 1 is comprised of holding 512k bios. If you use the X2.5034 or whatever bios, that is 512k already.... if you use anything else then its prolly gonna be 256k so you have to put 2 of them together.

Switch on bank one of your chip = 512k bios
Switch on bank two of your chip = 512k bios

so when you make a 1 meg bios, it should flash it to all of the banks if that makes sence. Best thing if your still confused is to post which bios you have and i can show you exactly how it should be put together wink.gif

Ok, thank you for your help.

I'm going to make a new cd with the x2_4973 (256 k version) for a v1.0 xbox. I have the raw .bin file on my computer as of right now.

this isn't going to work. if you've got no video you've got an eeprom issue.

if you can't see video from either bank then you've got to change your eeprom. this has happened to me before.

but yes, you do need to change your bios to a non 1.6 bios. just use the latest x2 bios, flashed on bank 2, with a 512 image of flash bios on bank 1

okay kewl, well you can make a 512k bios because thats the size it HAS to be to flash to one of the banks. Use the program to combine the bios's into one and do it like.

Bank 1 = x2_4973
Bank 2 = x2_4973
Bank 3 = preferably flashbios
Bank 4 = preferably flashbios

all that should equal to 1 meg bios

Could I bother you to help me change, or lead me in a direction so I could help myself change my eeprom to the appropiate settings?

keep in mind I was not able to get to the point of installing evox dashboard. So I can't FTP into my box.
