I was thinking how is this system going to run online... its it going to be to powerful? i dont know much about how online gaming work, but with games that high of quality will we be needing to upgrade our connection? dsl/cable/t1+ they say broadband required for 360', but do they really mean it, if people are going to need to upgrade MS will probably loose alot of customers to the live service.

ummm

I dont know how to respond without sounding annoyed. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post?

Live is already, and has been Broadband only since it launched almost 3 YEARS ago.

The structure at its roots is the same. We will get more features, there is no such thing as 360 Live. Live is Live, wether youre on a xbox or a xbox 360.

The dash/interface will be different, but at its roots, Live is Live.

Our personal connections stay the same, its up to the Developers to optimize Net code within their titles.

I must leave now, I need some pop.gif

We'll be just fine with normal broadbad. I play splitscreen on live all the time while download stuff from two different PC's and see no lag at all.

The system will run online powerfully. the connection i know how is works, it is the same. it is meaning it, as it always was, so they will loose them to the new one which is the same so no lose.

wow thax.... wow.... couldn't have said it better myself blink.gif

heheheh just kidding man, but u lost me after ur first sentence....

ok, 360 on live will not require a better connection than the broadband you use now since the system will be able to handle a whole lot more, the connection just needs to send and recieve information, same as it always has... only thing i can see that will take up a more significant portion of the bandwidth would be physics calculations since there will be much more this next gen, but I'm not too worried about it since I've played PC games that have little to no lag on my connection. Better graphics dount equal a need for more bandwidth since you dont send any textures and whatnot in game to other xboxs....

hopefully my research hasn't failed me... if so, just throw me some pop.gif and I'll be fine....

ok, better graphics = more lag. try playing quake 1 on a modem(its totally playable i did it for years), then trying playing q3 on the same modem, not playable. why you ask? better graphics means more things on your screen, more things on your screen means more things on everyone elses screen. these all have to be synched up and calculated for so its the same for everyone which needs more bandwidth.

new games have destructable enviorments which need to be calcuated for which means bandwidth is used. a racing game that has many more AI cars needs bandwidth for, more people = more bandwidth etc. its not like your just taking the same old game and making it prettier with no downside, quake is the best example i can think of.

most people have very fast download speeds and no upload speeds which is why they lag out in games, doesnt matter if you have 10megs down if your stuck at 256k upload your gonna lag out.

Um.. I hope you realise your modem doesn't do any of the graphics?
That's what the GPU is for...
If you can't get Q3 to run, then its time to upgrade or get a better connection, as I'm sure the packets will be limited to 'Oh, this guy clicked this button, fire a bullet' or 'oh no, that thing got shot, better show it getting blown up on everyones' screen'

For example. You have game server one.

You join game server one, it sends all the packets from pre-game stuff (name changes, pings, team etc.) while the GPU does all the graphics and stuff that is required.
The game starts, and you prolly get a nifty count-down type thing and then everyone runs around going 'Boom Boom Boom'. The only information being sent to and from the server would be player position, hp/mp/bullets/armor and a few other things (sounds would still be played from the DVD unless its over the live headset). BUT, all the graphics and stuff would already be on the DVD, they simply need to be loaded and stuff. It's like playing Halo 2, the maps and all the graphics/sounds are already on the DVD/HDD and all you need is for the server to go 'Hey Xbox, I need this map and this texture right NOW!' and it'll load.
