Hi, I have a soft-modded XBOX running XBMC. I also have a laptop hard drive, contained in a usb enclosure, which I use to store files/films etc. The hard drive is FAT32 formatted. Is it possible to connect this USB hard drive to the XBOX using the XBOX to PC USB connector cable and use XBMC to play the files directly from the hard drive (without XBOX formatting the disk). Any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks

what's worse, if you still try xbox (not xbmc) may format it into FatX.

xbox would try to format a HDD in one of its USB ports? i never would have expected that. i wouldnt even have expected it to realize there is a HDD at all

I have an MP3 player that works as a USB hard drive. What worked the best for me is to just leave it connected to one of the computers on the network, than just connect to it from the XBOX with SMB.

ipods work great for this, although im not sure on the cache settings and constantly accessing the ipod HDD is really bad for it.

if thats the 250gigs x2 Raid0 model I would return it ASAP. a friend works retail and ALL of this model they sold has broken

@$599msrp its even more ouch.

You could find any computer and put a huge HD in it and either use:
NASlite smb (although i couldn't get the damn floppy image to work)
or lorma linux smb (works great for me) google and ye shall find.

pretty sure both of em have ways around the "bios not finding your HD because its too big" issue

I have vowed not to pay more than 50 cents a gig. you should too smile.gif

Suckers I got this HDD for my home network, It blows all of your out of the water.
It's firewire enabled so my Mac have easy access. I can also plug it in to my wireless router and send it to my laptop. This HDD kicks ass. I might look into buying 2 or 3 and set them up in a server. That would be sweet! tongue.gif

If it's RAID0, it's garbage.

The same friend bought 2x 500gig ones (it's not the exact same model, just usb2 & firewire, not ethernet) and they BOTH broke.

Don't say I haven't warned you...
