I ran a chameleon on a 1.0 for over a year.. this summer, my xbox crapped on itsself and it wouldn't give me any audio or video.. it booted up fine it sounded like, no flashing lites either.. well i tried differen't cables and stuff, still same result. so i gave up.. recently my friend gave me his xbox.. i was gonna try to put my mod chip in. but it was a 1.6... anyway.. i got the idea that maybe i should try to start my old 1.0 up again... well i fired it up, no modchip inside. and WOW it booted up the xbox splash logo... but then i get the blinking red light saying my xbox needs service... well i put the mod chip on and tried it again.. still same result.. tried switching out hard drives.. taking out the dvd drive.. but still i get the same stuff.. it shouldn't have got damaged during the storage period, but i have no idea.. i think the it might be the power supply, but i'm not sure on that.. it gets enough power to boot up.. though its getting really loose back there... any suggestions at all? if i posted this in the wrong forum, please move it.. thank you

update-

was looking at my mod chip today and noticed all 4 banks were off.. and t here was tape over it... well i took the tape off. and tried putting bank 1 on.. it boots up to the linux screen... did it for all 4 banks. and i wsa getting my blue mod chip light on... when all banks are off, or the mod isn't in the box... i get the red frag light on the console & the ''you need service'' screen.

Did you try reflashing the chip. Maybe the bios got corrupted....
Also, the hard drive is probably not locked, thats one reason why you're getting the blinking red light with xbox needs service.
