Sxb New Is Out---, SXB NEW WITH directfb and xdirectfb Options

size is 288 mb was 230 but added extra modules so you do not download seprate
This sxb new was done quickly from scratch in last 4 or 4 days 2 3 hours a day
as i promised,i needed few more hours to implement and test everything myself
but certian things i could not test due to xbox cdrom not reading any cds ok.
but as i wrote that sxb new deadline was at the end of the week i had to keep
my promise to you guys .So please read my docs before you run sxb new ok
and if you can test certian things on it for me great,thanks read below

SXB is made from slackware 102 just come out,it has changed in format
layout slightly it has full complete system and libs it now supports the latest
cvs version of directfb 9.23 and xdirectfb i think this is all new fox xbox
i think even the old pc slax has never had directfb and xdirectfb so its
new all around.
SXB has the latest apps like Firefox 107 just released this week
mplayer latest 107 prer2 latexst xine and libs Please note mplayer and
xine was compiled by me just to support directfb and xdirectfb so
they wil only work with directfb libs 9.23 so please do not take these 3
moudles out of the modules dir ok.
so there is gimp,giam,sylheed,firefox,mplayer,xine,gxine,etc,etc and
lots more i probley did not add in desktop menu as i do not like crowed
menus in desk top only icons.

So my quickcam usb web cam is working so i added xawtv to view,
i am compiling tvtime and other stuff with directfb support in modules
i will upload when done and if i have time ok.

added extra modules to fill cd up to 288 mb,
modules are in extramods dir they are sambam,wine,etce,
i had them all running in sxb but i took them out as
it would not fit on my usb-key as its only 256 mb

so to test sxb-usb install i had to take some stuff out.

but you can add them when needed in modules dir from extramods dir
when needed ok

for transperent and opyicy windows in xdirectfb you need
usb wheel mouse ok read docs but xpad can do all other stuff ok
read my docs and go to directfb.org if want to know all
tricks and tips of directfb,as i myself still do not know all options
main config file of directfb is in /etc/directfbrc options are all here

please do not edit this file if you do not understand it ,

yes the only thing you should edit if you want is to change video mode,

you ann try any video mode no limits as long its in fbmodes ok,i
have added lots off tv modes in there my fav is 1024x768
and best of all 786x576 full dvd mode but as my default
desktok background is 800x600 all modes are that.

Do not worry adding all thoes video modes in linuxboot.cfg its a waste
of time once sxb boots it should be ok.

look in xromwell log menu and add your own modes read my docs

as you know my xbox dvdrom is broken and this is first time i havent
tested full if it boots and installs how it suppose to ok i did test some
but only installed for hd so i am not sure if it do same when installed from
iso cd,but i think it be ok.

i think it boots ok as it boots on my pc so some other stuff others
can help with also in my docs ok.

i have done txt doc and at the moment i am trying to ad in html
and sxb bootsplash sxb tv pics i can finish this of while iso is being
uploaded and can add this latter and you can add it on your site
if useful.

Hum,you do not come here often now a days as i had dissapeared for
a while,there were other reasons for that nothing to do with sxb
or computers ok,

So you have gone somewher now as i am sure you would have replyed
my notes here as i was asking for your advice and help.

ok keck next release i might add Athene Desktop as our default
window manager as this is why i done all that directfb and xdirectfb
stuff in sxb,Athene looks great in sxb with my graphics.

I was going to release it this time as default with sxb.but silly me
i forgot Athene is one off thoes few wm that we have to pay
for and if you edit anything in it like i did you need their permission in writing.

Yes i was using their free version one but you still cannot edit stuff

any way i send email to them, and said is it ok for me to add and edit
some config files and add my sxb themes to it,i told them to look
at our backgrounds what i wanted to put in athene desktop and that it
will also run on xbox,

Anyway i told them it runs well in sxb,and i asked them if i can use
it in sxb and change their pkg in to an sxb mo module,

I thik they wrote back to me i read it briefly i think they will allow me to
do what i am doing as long as no one changes their docks and agreements
method so when done if i decided to add athene in next sxb release
we will add a little note so people will not tamper with the athene files
ok.So i will write to them and ask again to be sure o

no distro has had acel befor couse of the video card being non standerd. if its true direct fb works and has 3d acell you guys are gods lol you did the inpossable.

There's more than one type of video acceleration. No one has got 3D acceleration going but 2D acceleration has been possible for a long time now (the XFree driver in the xbox-linux cvs repositary has had 2D acceleration since 2003). This means tasks like dragging windows around the screen are accelerated by the graphic hardware.

well point taken but thats why most distros lag so bad no acell what so ever. no disrespect but thats why gentoo lags so bad even when using xfce. this is the first distro to take advantage of direct rendering and after my test run with it its just fast apps like firefox open in seconds vs minuts in gentoo. this distro needs work tow. for 1 the live cd didnt work at all for me i had to ftp it. i couldent figure out how to get ftp acess to sxb nore could i get networking up at all i belve cose its defaulted to static witch i dont use. i do likethe abilty toadjust the mouse speed thow i always found the xpad settings slow in this case you can tweak it to your liking. the gui is defently xbox frendly. the nativ dvd display mode is very nice to.

it could use some more install options like the ones avable in xdsl. so the live cd can be switched to a real installl be it on e f g or nativ. i cant judge the live cd sence it dosnt work at all just my experances with a ftp install. but i have never liked the on-screen keybord i just think it can be done better maybe something docked to the gui that has a bind on one of the xpad buttions to show and hide it. shouldent be to hard to do. or go one step further and make one that only shows when nedded. i rember seeing something like this in early pics of a xbox-linux dev project it showed a screen-shot with a osk docked to a term window.

Sounds great man. How is the 1.6 support or is there any? well anyway ima download it and play with it just curious wether there has been any advances in dealin with the overscan problem....besides fbset but of course

HI,thanks you like some stuff in new sxb i have to add more,yes i do not like
xirtual keyboard but some people only use and have xpad ya.

About livecd part and installs yes this is what i wanted to hear
if it worked or errors etc,

if you read some of my docs in iso you will noticed i have not tested
licecd part ans some other install as sxb burned on cd,as
my xbox dvdrom is broken i so i am working blind you see

this is why i wrote in docs please test this for me as i am unable
to test this this sxb release,and i have asked help from people
just like you to give me feed back and build sxb iso for me 2 ways

so again anyone read docs and help with feed back that be great.

i hope you know i done al this sxb in last 5 days so it was a
rush as i promised people here,

usally i never upload sxb until i have tested at least once wverything
my self but i had no choice i wanted to give you guys sxb yhis week
as i pronised.

do not forget usally i do 3 or so sxb first and as i go along
1 better and lesss errors as i go along with tests,

and then i uplod the best one so i take 2 week or so
depends how much time i have.

so this new sxb iso is the first one so this is the one i gave
you all also, so yup lots more to add yet ,but first i need
all your feed back reports errors etc, as without dvdrom
at the moment i am unable to do some testing ok.

if you want dhcp just run pkgtool or net config and save

if you have installed sxb modular on hd.

so yes give feed back

Ok with XDSL I could not install anything, thus I could not play DOOM Legacy or ZDOOM on my XBOX. Will I be able to istall them as well as the SDL Library with this distro? PLease say so!!!!

no dsl is my fav aswell so if you like sxb you will have to use both

SXB ras directfb-sdl and xdirectfb-sdl acc so if it can run
xdesktop in sdl acc so it should be able to run other sdl stuff
not sure as i have not tried this so you can only try
