I made a post about my mates xbox not working correctly, in the hardware section. i have discovered that the ide cable wasn't working correctly, and the hdd had died.
I want to mod this machine so it can once again become usable, the only obsticle in my way is the lack of a harddrive.
Im thinking that the only way to mod this machine is to

1) de-solder my xbox chip.
2) solder the chip in my mates xbox
3) plug my unlocked hdd in
4) get the eeprom with config magic
5) lock a new hdd with the eeprom.
6) desolder chip
7) perform a tsop flash, with 007 and raincoat. or softmod the system.

does this method look ok to you?
or am i making it hard on myself? is there a simpler way to do this.

No need to copy or load a new eeprom. Just put your chip in his along with whatever HDD is gonna be in that box. Setup the HDD (format, lock, insert exploit). Boot with the chip disabled, run the exploit to load your flash application and you're set.

the problem is, my chip is a cheap mod, so it cant be disabled. that was the reason for locking the new drive. i assumed that after the new hdd is locked, it would be safe to desolder the chip. thus disabling the mod on his box, then allowing me to run auf exploit on his box.

am i right in thinking this?

how is that any diferent than what pickle said? you dont need to do anythign with your eeprom, just lock the HD with cofigmagic

an all chips can be disabled with a SPDT switch on d0, or just by cutting the d0 wire

Instead of disabling the chip after doing what I suggested, just remove it all together since you wont need it in that box anymore.

Your way will also work but has more steps.
